Believing that there are a variety of ways to worship God, Athens First United Methodist Church offers two different Sunday morning worship experiences.
The first service is our Contemporary Service, known as First Light; it meets at 8:50 am in the Beasley Center (202 West Bryan Street) which is across the street from our Education Building. This is located across the street from the sanctuary and education buildings. The Contemporary Service emphasizes a more casual form of dress along with contemporary praise music led by one of several praise bands with modern instruments–often including guitars, keyboard, drums, and other percussion instruments. Lyrics to the music are displayed in real time on a screen behind the band.
The second service, the Traditional Service, is at 11:00 am and is held in the Church Sanctuary. While casual dress is always acceptable, in this service, the minister wears a robe. Our Chancel Choir leads the music and the congregation sings from the United Methodist hymnal. In the Traditional Service, the Creeds of the church and other more formal liturgical elements are recited. Guests are invited & welcomed at each of these services.
Hearing assistance is provided at both services.
